When the City of Los Angeles was in fiscal distress, Dan Shapiro chaired the Mayor's Select Committee on Finance and Budget to address hundreds of millions in shortfalls.
Dan Shapiro chaired the Advisory Committee to the Los Angeles Police Commission on the Officer Deployment Formula, and also chaired the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Planning Commission on Los Angeles 2000.
Dan Shapiro is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College (summa cum laude) and Harvard Law School. He served as an engineering officer on a destroyer in Viet Nam, and was the Intelligence Briefing Officer to the Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations.
Dan Shapiro and his wife Rhoda financed law school by owning and operating a hot dog stand in Harvard Square.
